Happy Birthday Wishes for July to:

21st birthday for Tui, son of Tui Fenton and Ann, brother of April

Others who had celebrations were: Adrian Cully, Rosalie Elkington, Patricia Fenton, Cameron Taylor and Jonathan Gutschlag

WELCOME TO MAGGIE, who  lives in Dunedin.  .

Aunty Bub, was our Nana Fenton's youngest sister.  Known also as Margaret Adlam, married to Wi Whakarei, known as Witoto.  They lived on the Karaka Flat.   Aunty Bub is photographed with daughter Rita.  Aunty Bub's younger daughter, Tui Witoto lived for many years in Dunedin .Tui also used to live with Nana Fenton up in Rona Road.

Welcome to Marjorie.  Hope you enjoy finding this site.

Photos of Darryn and Julie dressed for the Queen's Garden Party are on the Internet.  And, a good story, and a copy of the invite.  The nearest I'll get to experiencing THE tea party.

The shortest day has been and gone and still the rains are an unwelcome inundation.  The scooter mob's AGM has passed and Richard is chairman no more and I'll have no need to do the keyboarding stuff for him.  I'll have more time for reading M&B's, Courtney.

Locally, the Treescape/assassinate a tree men-at-work are slicing wattle trees down alongside the golf course.  Wouldn't mind them chopping down a few branches gratis on our place 'cos it costs a lot of money for such a service.

Last Monday night Kingi and partner Gaby experienced a traffic hazard: whilst on the North-Western Motorway (aka SH 16) a young man on the Lincoln Road overbridge was considering self harm.  They had to sit in their car for 40 minutes about 6 m away from the bridge whilst the Police negotiators worked with the man: other car drivers were backed off the motorway  in this area.  The motorway exits and entrances were blocked north and south of Lincoln Road and they had to bear witness to the young man's plight until things were resolved.

Roger recently phoned and said that he and Sherry are off to visit her sister and partner on nearby Lake Casaic and that its hot over there! Friday's funeral of our neighbour was held in Henderson where the weather was atrocious and the proposed flypast of an Orion was not possible.  Our neighbour had left the airforce circa 1960's having his last flight in a Sunderland flying boat before working in SPANZ and then AirNZ.  A brilliant neighbour who, Darryn, standing beside the LoneStar chief photo (on the right), visited Poppa Willis last March when he was home from England.  Aynsley's weekend culminated in the pleasure of being her friend's bridesmaid

A lovely holiday in Darwin and Brisbane

Gloria and John have returned from a most exciting trip to the far west City of Darwin. Gloria said that amongst their pleasures of being a tourist was to view the Kakadu trail and Jabiru. Enroute to NZ their stopover was to stay in Brisbane. Unfortunately Jack was unwell with a touch of influenza and Mari and cousin Jo-Ann and husband Mike were not able to visit either.

A few weeks ago Gloria spoke about the unveiling celebrating the life of her mother, Aunty Ruby.

At the unveiling, Gloria chatted with Dennis; Danny has wondered about when Dennis is having his ordination ceremony. Anyone know?

August birthdays for some: HAPPY BIRTHDAYS TO OUR COUSINS

Remember the mountain? You can watch it live. www.taranakivista.co.nz

Our last weekend in August was interesting. Richard and I attended the wedding of an ex-pupil of mine. The ceremony was in the carved house at the Hoani Waititi marae and the hakari in the huge dining room next door. A lovely day and wedding.

The next day we both used our Vespa's and off to watch the Warrior's game at Mt Smart Stadium. Fellow scooter friends gave us tickets to be a part of the Warrior's fanbase on the grassed enbankment. Excellent game. Mighty crush on the roads afterwards: poor road design meant long waits to use the one lane roads.

The red moon, or luna rosa, was an occasion to take photos - a miserable effort on my part - still it was exciting to watch the eclipse develop. Quite a surprise to have the scudding clouds allow us long views of the development.

The ERO team finished with our school some 10 days ago.

Have to sort out the September birthdays:

Danny Fenton 7th Edwin Bailey 10th
Kevin Fenton 13th Teri Patuwairua 18th
Darren Snooks 23rd Janine Fenton 24th
Cindy Tong 29th

Rollover to October 2007

A quiet September ensued; I was beset with laryngitis for most of the month. I have first hand experience that being voiceless is a trauma I can do without. Here's what I suggest if you are the one suffering from laryngitis: don't talk. Keep paper and pen handy. In the cold light of day, look back at one's written messages and see the passion of one's communication, ie frustration. You will really, really wish that person could talk. For Richard, 'silence was not always golden'. He could feign deafness or mouth back that 'he couldn't understand'. A different aspect was that people treated me as being deaf too and they would TALK LOUDLY, and sometimes s-l-o-w-l-y-e-e-y-y.

Have I had a quiet September with little to write about? Yep!

I have an exciting distraction though. A trip to Virginia via Los Angeles in a couple of day's time. Roger, Sherrie and Rangi will look after us for five days and send us off to the wedding of my bridesmaid Pa's daughter's wedding.

Mum has also to see Val and Malcolm off to the Brisbane wedding of Mum's nephew, who is our cousin Tommy. His wedding is in October. His Dad was our Best Man.

Darryn's Buckingham Palace video has been viewed and is with Mum in Waitara. Darryn and Julie had a trip to Brighton and they saw the hundreds and hundreds of Lambrettas and Vespas and other scooters, and cafe racers, lining lanes and roads on the promenade.

October is going bye quickly and soon to be back in NZ. Hi Keegan, glad to hear you're okay. Nana phoned Uncle Roger tonight. He showed me a photo of you playing with the firey sticks - I can't recall their name. Fraser, Uncle has a photo of your kids just before he did the heroic jump with Kingi's BMX bike an had his spectacular accident. Courtney, one photo of you is nearby to the Ngamotu Beach. Richard and I were taken to visit Fallingwater by Craig and Pam (nee Eriwata of Waitara), along with another Waitarian, Sandra (nee Watson), Sandra's dad, Ray, was brought up across the paddocks, with the same family as Aunty Mona (Mum), from the Rona Road home as was Pam's dad Choc who's home was on linking Pennington Road. Roger and Sherrie have hosted us prior to the wedding in Virginia of Pam's daughter and for two nights before our leaving for NZ and back to work for Richard and myself. Rangi is tall now and I'm a leaning post for him. He has given up his room for his aunt an uncle.

25November 2007

Maori Television broadcast the documentary on 21 November and I had great hopes of having a recording of it. Mum, (Aunty Mona) was one of the family members who was part of the documentary on Darcy Nicholas. The following is a description: 'LAND OF MY ANCESTORS follows Darcy to America to the opening of stunning weaving exhibition The EternalThread in San Francisco and its closing at the Warm Springs Reservation, Oregon, and celebrates the precious exchange of breath between Maori and First Nations people of America and Canada. “Darcy’s story is inseparably woven with his mountain, Mount Taranaki, his family, his ancestors, his art and into the lives of other indigenous artists and friends,” says Lala Rolls. “This documentary takes us from the times and politics of Parihaka through to Aotearoa today. “Darcy says the documentary is about a Taranaki family. We say that is true and it is also about being Maori, weaving, art, keeping a strong thread to the ancestors and living in the world today.” LAND OF MY ANCESTORS screened for the first time in Maori Television’s New Zealand Documentary slot, Pakipumeka Aotearoa, on Wednesday November 21 at 8.30 PM.'

Mum went to the premiere public screening in New Plymouth and though having seen it on the big screen, still enjoyed the tv viewing. She said that the filming at the homestead opposite Kairau pa, took all day; she said it was fun.

And so nearly over. My Internet ISP account is lagging, as it has got capped. A few of our cousins had their birthdays this month and only have had time to mention a very few in time:

Richard Brands

15th and he's now 65 years

WELCOME TO OUR COUSIN, GRANDDAUGHTER OF FEARLESS FENTON, EX-TIRAU AND MOEREWA. Erana He-Fenton, on the right with her grandMother Marie and grandAunt Nola.

Rebecca Tong 11th Val Jane Lodge 4th
Eugene Crawford 19th Katie Tong 11th
Hugh Taylor 10th Jo-Ann McDonald 22nd
Leanne Taylor 25th Peter Tong 27th

The 50th birthday of Val Jane was on 4 November. Val was born in Apia, Western Samoa. Congratulations on the big birthday Val. They recently returned from the wedding of Tommy and Amorn held in Brisbane.

Aunty Mona has made two visits to Auckland in the last week or so and enjoyed the company of grandson, Keegan, in their journeys in the Barina. One other experience was using the Internet to talk and see Roger in his Upland home. Mum and Keegan enjoyed their chat with Darryn and Julie; Darryn showed off his international travelling cat Missy Moo to the Skype webcam. Missy Moo and Baxter flew to the UK from their Taranaki home. Mum and Val are planning their trips to the summer time in the UK..

The New Plymouth Girls High School's senior prizegiving gave Courtney the reward for attending every lesson of her Year 13 and for not missing school, ie 100% attendance. This young lady also received a diligence prize and the top rize for Year 13 computing. Her brother Fraser is enjoying being part of the campus of the Practical Education where he enjoys his mother Val's teaching. Keegan is settling into his new abode in Auckland having gained employment at Hewlett Packard.

Jack continues to send his jokes and shares his delights of visiting Caloundra, greatgranddaughter Emma and prawns.

20 December
Danny put the question about what makes the website change in it's contents and I must thank the family for their involvement.

The December birthdays means that the last day of the year is when Cameron Woon celebrates his.Others who have had their birthdays in December include: Tania Taylor at the beginning of the month, Chris Nooks on the 17th; Nola Fenton and Jack McDonald share the 19th, Marie Fenton has hers on the 27th and Malcolm Lodge is a Boxing Day celebrity. Happy birthday to you all.

This year has brought many experiences; for Richard and myself the trip to the Virginia wedding friends' Lara and Corey was thrilling. The richness of the trip was being with friends and visiting places with them. The first wedding for 2007 was that of my goddaughter Ruth and James where the ceremony took place at Vogel House, Lower Hutt. The crazy side of that wonderful wedding trip was hearing and seeing the proof that Wellington has wicked winds. Our brand new Coleman flash tent was not up to the challenge. One of the poles snapped as the tent flicked and flacked.

The radio has brought my attention to worldy matters and linked memories. This morning a caller whilst visiting San Francisco was astonished to see beggars in the streets, homesless rummaging in rubbish bins, in, as she said, the most materially wealthy country in the world. Thirty-one years ago, when Richard and I were bus passengers leaving Port Said, we saw lumps on the side of the unlit roadways. Hundreds of the grey mounds, mile after mile; I was shocked to learn that they were peopled by the poor.

Courtney has told me that her dad, Malcolm, has returned home from a shared holiday with mum Val Jane. The highlight, said Courtney, was that Malcolm enjoyed the enriching experience of the five-day cruise on the Nile.

In Waitara, mum Mona has been a scoota enthusiast; she has even imported Aynsley to visit and Pimp her Ride. In time for Christmas, Mum wants her ride to be pimped with Xmas regalia. I feel sure that local night riders in Waitara would appreciate Mum having her Stirling Moss machine All Lit Up.

To add news about our cousin Danny's granddaughter Megan is to know that she is a high achiever in her top level swimming; she must be aiming to peak for the next Olympics next year with her performances at the Waitakere pool in recent competition. As Danny has phoned, I can add news about other family and have heard that his life is utterly full with his voluntary work and family commitments. No such thing as retirement for this cousin. He will enjoy his festive holiday with family and his Ruakaka caravan.

Birthdays for December - Nola and Jack. Happy Birthday for yesterday.

Auckland weather has been it's usual doom and gloom with thunderstorms a few days ago. It's always fun to get emails from Jack where he refers to the drought in their area.

Richard, 65 year old scooter (over-)enthusiast, joined 23 other scooter riders on their Christmas Toy Run from Auckland's Mt Wellington and over the harbour bridge to Northcote. He's now calming down the unintended yellow paint in the small room. Kingi has moved out again; Aynsley is on holiday in Blake Street.

The Waitara High School website will inform you that April, daughter of Eugene Fenton, has featured in the prizegiving awards; www.waitarahs.school.co.nz

Happy New Year

Margret
