24 May 2005 and time is marching ... on

WELCOME TO THE NEW WHANAU

Two of Nana and Pop Fenton's great-great-greatgrandchildren were born this month; to Janine and Zane Taylor and to Nicola and Mark Foley.  We are able to see the photos of Emma Foley, a Queenslander, contributed by great-grandparents, Mari and Jack McDonald.

It is lovely to see the photo of Vera and Shane's daughter, and of her niece.

Apparently on Queens Birthday Weekend there will be a memorial to Brenda in Taranaki.  Also, with little known by me at the moment, Zane, grandson of Aunty Rita has suffered the loss of his partner, Janine, during the last week.

Aunties Mona and Ruby made the journey from Waitara and New Plymouth respectively in company with Margret and Richard and joined by Gloria and John.  We met Marie's family and specifically the children and grandchildren of Marie and Ronnie.  Many of Ronnie's friends entertained us with the exploits of Fearless Fenton and were told of the legend of the nickname.  Danny delivered a eulogy celebrating his brother's hunting exploits.  And Ronnie's mokopuna shared the reading of a poem honouring their Poppa with Danny's son-in-law Peter linking the hymns and speakers including his wife Cindy, niece of Ronnie.  We also met Peter Bailey and his partner Shula; Peter's Mum is Judy, daughter of Uncle Fred and he lives in Massey, Auckland.

Danny phoned to say that his brother Ronnie died in Kawakawa Hospital last night from a heart attack.  Ronnie was lying in state at his home on Settlement Road in Moerewa, prior to his funeral on Saturday, 21 May, at Maunu, Whangarei.  Thanks to several whanau who had tried to contact the children of Aunty Allison and Uncle Ike to inform them of the funeral.

FEARLESS FENTON WAS FAREWELLED AT MAUNU CHAPEL IN WHANGAREI THIS AFTERNOON

FENTON: Ron (Fearless). Of  Moerewa. Died suddenly, at Bay of Islands Hospital, on May 18, 2005, dearly loved husband of Marie, loved father of Suzanne, Kevin, Christine, Rhonda, and Malcolm, and much loved poppa to eight grandchildren. Lying in state at his home until his service, which will be held at 2 pm, on Saturday 21, at Maunu Crematorium, Whangarei. Phone 0-9-404-1320 for details.

FENTON : Ronald David (Fearless). Good mate and loved brother of Danny and loved brotherinlaw of Nola, loved uncle of Wayne and Cindy and families. Beloved brother of late Judy and loved son of the late Fred and Zoe Fenton. Haere ra Ronnie.

WELCOME TO VANESSA, DAUGHTER OF BRENDA AND PAUL, who lives in the 'naki and works with Val-Jane, Keegan's Mum

Vanessa, you will obviously see that there is very little photo storage about you and I would be grateful if you could SEND in some pictures to the webpage.  Its a rigmarole, but please ask Val as to how easy it is.  You Nana Ruby is in bed right now; we have just returned from her nephew Ronnie's funeral.  She is a most excellent traveller; she keenly reads roadsides, place names and discusses all sort of things.  Many of the places up State Highway 16 she recalls of times when she travelled with Uncle Tui to Maori Battalion reunions.  Aunty Mona, my Mum, has just checked her Lotto tickets - no luck!  Keegan and Richard are watching 'Master and Commander' - they've become SkyTVholics since the service was started on Thursday afternoon.  Bugger!  Keegan went on a Magnetos scooter run today and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the others on the mountaintop of Mt Eden - he thought the vista was out of this world.

15 May a cool Sunday in Akarana with usual overcast sky and this is something that nephew Keegan has come to notice in the Jaffaland of Dorkland.  Keegan is on a scooter run with Richard and they are doing the pleasure spots of the isthmus with the run starting in Mt Eden, to the harbour bridge, up through Albany and turn oft to Riverhead and lunch somewhere before returning to the city via highway 16 where they'll peel off at Whenuapai or at Massey's Westgate.  As an intending member of the Magnetos Scooter Club NZ Inc, of which Richard is the national Chairman - even if Taranaki is the only chapter aside from Aucklanders and Waikato and Wellington members - Keegan has been developing the club website with his high-level IT skills
