"Haa" on Maori Tv 17 July 2006 - see Kingston's interview

22 July 2006

Maori Television programme called 'HAA" is to be transmitted on 17 July and Kingi's interview will be part of the package.

Val and Courtney arrived back in NZ on Sunday.  I saw a photo, on their camera, of the meeting of Adam Patuwairua and Val and courtney at the home of Darryn and Julie, in England.  I'm sure there's more than we can hear about the visitor from Ireland who flew over to England and the whanau from New Plymouth.

Joining our website is John Crawford who is an Information Officer in the Wanganui library.  John is the grandson of Royce Adlam, who, in turn is the daughter of Nana Fenton's eldest brother, Edwin Arthur Adlam.  John was intending to visit the 'naki during the weekend but the floods and road closures around Whangaehu and Waitotara put paid to plans and the retreat to Ratana was necessary.  John is going to send a photo of his Wanganui family.

John's sister is a New Zealand representative in rowing.  His surviving grandparent is  Maruera Douglas Rangiapehu Te Patu (of Hawera).  John writes, 'there is not many of us, Royce (My nana) had only 6 grand children. The oldest being my brother Steven Conway Crawford, Jason Crawford (belonging to Uncle Ian) Me John Robert Crawford (Allan's son) Rebecca Crawford (Uncle Ian) Nikki-Lee Crawford (my baby sister) and Emma Crawford (uncle Ian).

  July's message from Blighty

Courtney has sent an email that here's a snippet to share with you all:

We have finally arrived in London ... at 6:30am this morning and it is now 12:40pm ... and gosh am I tired.  The sleep catches up with you ... but we stopped in Bangkok for a night and WOW was that a eye opener seeing people sleeping in the streets, rubbish everywhere and every where you went people were begging for money and i felt so sorry for them ... but Mum said you cant give them all money.

I had SUPER fun at the markets ... after 9 months of saving my money hard core .... I went mad buying all these little random things ... and things for friends and family ... I was no good at the bartering, Mum had to do it for me ... because I would give them the first price they ask for but Mum said they are just trying to rip you off ......

I'm not too sure what we are going to be doing in London ... but I think the rest of the day is going to be a lazy day ... it's quiet funny ... being here and it's lunch time and you guys sleeping.

Courtney and her mum, Val-Jane had flown into Heathrow's terminal 4 and travelled down to the home of Darryn and Julie in Shere, located near Guildford.  The experience of travel is an eye-opener and well done on achieving your goal to visit England, Courtney.

Darryn and Julie celebrated their respective June birthdays with a canal trip through the Canal Midi in France.  I used GoogleEarth to track along what I believe they would have seen!  Mind you, now that Darryn has zipped up some photos and sent them I will endeavour to share them with you.

Rangi is on holiday in Oregon where his mum, Sherrie is currently working on assignment.  Sherrie is an intern with the Department of Transportation and will include a visit to the workings of the San Francisco Bay bridge.

Meanwhile, in Waitara, Mum is cooking up a kotutu of pigbones and ...  Well, after two nights in a row of heavenly battered flounder cooked at Aunty Gemma's shop in Waitara, I believe in takeaways.  The 1st August means that Roger, Sherrie and Rangi will be leaving the USA and spending two weeks in England and a quick trip to France is under the chunnel and a visit to view the Eiffel Tower will be a possibility.   Roger, who left Aotearoa circa 1972 and lives in the USA,  will be also making his first trip to England.

At the end of this month, ie 30 July, Kingi is set to leave for a trip to Germany.  The World Parachuting Championships are being held at Gera and he is a member of the New Zealand team.  His tv interview for the Tangata Rongonui program and shown on Maori Television on 17 July is in the show called 'Haa".

In the weekend Richard and I drove up to Tikorangi and crossed over the Bertrand Road swingbridge.  The side photo shows Courtney back there in 2003; it had been closed for most of her life to vehicular traffic and served as a bungy jump site.  Now its back to aiding motorists although the track is quite narrow.

I got to meet the granddaughter of Diana Adlam who lives in Waitara.  Charmain married into the Anglesey family.  Her mother Hazel lives in Waitara as well.

The mate of Jim Elkington was taken to the Turangawaewae marae recently.  Gloria spoke about meeting with Bryan and Pam Taylor at their Lake Taupo home when she went to a teachers' college reunion of her group of friends
