2005 and 50th anniversary for Mari and Jack

 50 years married!

Happy Anniversary for 15th January for the McDonalds of Ascot - and to Mari and Jack, our very best wishes for achieving this milestone.

Mari and Jack are being feted today and have already enjoyed contact, via email, with the minister who married them .  A message over Radio station 4BC Brisbane heralded their 50th anniversary and an interview with an article in 'Brisbane Sunday Mail' newspaper' as well.  Luncheon with 20 friends will also be a part of the day's events, hosted by their daughter Jo-Ann.

Aunty Mona's 75th birthday is celebrated on 15th January - she had to be woken up by nephew Danny so that he could wish her happy birthday - lucky for her that he didn't sing.  Mum is here to attend a Nicholas whanau celebration over at Hobsonville.  She wants to go to the casino, too.  (I'm glad the non-smoking laws are in operation in such a place).  Next,  8 more days until Dennis's 56th birthday.

Jack has sent Mari out to work as he has sent out a photo in her new vocation uniform - flipping burgers at Hungry Jacks.  Below you can see some of the whanau signings on the wedding memorabilia.  Nana Fenton and her children and their spouses and very young Laura Patuwairua with her mum Tuppence (Eleanor), and dad Pe.  Signings from Aunty Rita and Uncle Ralph Taylor, from Uncle Hip and Aunty Mona Fenton.  Marjorie Harper who was Pop Fenton's niece; Aunty Marj regarded Rona Road as her second home to her family one in the Ponsonby area where father or brother or Uncles were members of the Auckland Fire Brigades.  The wedding bells souvenirs show the signatures ot some of the attendees at the 1954 wedding of Mari and Jack.

Celebrating the New Year's Eve - we visited the next-door neighbours: the rain was so bad we drive up our drive, along the road, down the road and up the neighbour's drive!  Dismal, drowning Auckland in our area.   I heard from friends staying at their bach in Mokau and heard about their stay and the weather was nice.

Our son biked home at 11.30 pm (New Year's Eve) flat tyre, no problem, to get music, strobe light and whatever food he could take back in the van (I drove), to feed his friends.  He didn't want to drive home in case the cops where about.  Responsible young man, yes.  The cops did come, at 11.30 pm with huge candlelit laser beams shooting up Christmas Beach and the side street from their beating helicopter and then it scurried over to Albany.  Mari and Jack were to watch the televised show of the fireworks display in Sydney where the lit sky was more enjoyable.

THE 57TH  CHRISTMAS PARADE FEATURED ON HERALD ISLAND 25th December and the floats that supported Santa Claus were many and varied. Richard and Kingi went out to photograph the procession whilst I stayed inside and viewed from the window.

The sheer devastation caused by the effects of the tsunami in Asia are overwhelming.

We have a picture of the vessel 'Good Ship Lollipop' mascot, Shirley Temple, aka Mari McDonald, who kept dancing whilst the oceans rolled on the silent wave.  Those who were not fortunate enough to enjoy the performance in the main ballroom will be able to appreciate the gambs of the young miss from Wainuiomata in this feature photograph.

I saw sunshine yesterday and today, at Kerikeri, where Kingston Brands was competing in the New Zealand Parachute Federation events.   Richard and myself visited with cousin Ronnie Fenton and wife Marie at their Moerewa home and met granddaughter Hayley who was on a holiday visit from the North Shore of Auckland.  Marie and Hayley went to the Kawakawa Internet cafe and viewed this website page for the first time.
