2004 June - Nicola marries Mark in Brisbane, Darryn moves to New Plymouth

3 June 2004

Darryn moved out this day from his six-week temporary Herald Island home, having worked for Beca Carter (etc) in their Auckland head office for the past four years.  His new workplace is with the Apex company based in New Plymouth where his experience will stand him in good stead in the 'naki.  This move back to Waitara complets a 12-year-cycle when he came up here to study at Carrington Institute of Technology when he was 17½ years old.  He's getting on now.
Jo-Ann, who works at the Brisbane International Airport control tower area met a person from Herald Island and will furnish her name as soon as she meets her again.  Jack has sent photos of the control tower but I cannot open them so I have to be patient.

NICOLA AND MARK MARRIEDAND YOU MIGHT SEE THEM IN THE SOUTH ISLAND, SHHH!!!

Living in Ascot for some 18 years and Nicola was married in the neighbourhood church in the Raceourse Road area.  Mari and Jack saw their eldest granddaughter, Nicola, accompanied by attendants including their youngest granddaughter, Kirsty walk down the aisle.  Mari refers to the two young ladies as Snow White and Rose Red.  Jo-Ann and husband Mike will be in their roles as mother and father-of-the-bride, as well as Lindsay playing part of the ceremonial giving Nicola away.  Our best wishes go for the bride and groom on their marriage.  Richard was hopeful to see sneaked-to-the-wedding earphones on Jack as he would have torn loyalties to Super 12 and the wedding.  Mari and Jack looked 'styly' in their wedding finery; and I do compliment you Jo-Ann as the suit colour is gorgeous and you look lovely.  Your outfit was spot-on.
Keeping in touch is a job taken on by Danny who shares Internet jokes with Trish and Jackie and Jack; has spoken to Paul, and to Gloria.  He has recently arranged to meet Joey and her family for breakfast.  Danny cannot remember how long ago that he saw Joey; he boosted the idea of the NEXT reunion.  Lo and behold, the things one can get caught out doing when one follow's one's delinquent younger cousin into doing the not-V-for-Victory gesture.   I had seen that Stephen had offered a religious blessing when his Dad was about to take the photograph at his Ferney Groover's home; BUT, when the photo is taken, from that angle, he looks angelic and I look like a blithering idiot doing the upyuh-sign.  (No explanations necessary, eh!).  By the way, a yarn, I'm not good at them either.  But, when my Mum was a bus driver doing her rounds of the heights of Waitara as her passengers enjoyed their breakfasts on board as she travelled the streets.  A friend of Mum's was walking on the footpath and Mum hailed her and, kind lady that this friend was, she turned to respond.  What was alarming to all of the innocent Waitara bus pupils was to see this 'sedate' lady doing the reverse-V-sign as sneaky Mum had delivered that message first, unseen by the bus pupils as her hand was low down outside the window.  'Oh, Mrs Fenton!   Did you see what that LADY just did?'   Poor old pedestrian as Mum had got the upper-hand on her!  Roger and Sherrie phoned tonight;  I have not been convincing as a itinerary maker as trying to cajole Roger to take Sherrie and Rangi to England fell on deaf ears.  Disguise yourself as body parts for a car, Sherrie, I said, and go to the home of the Lotus 7's or Lotus Cortina's; offer to carry his suitcases, I tried;  why not show Rangi the ancestral home of the Adlams from wiltshire where the historic henges of Avebury or Stone or Woodhenge are, I cried.  Not a murmur of a positive YES was squeaked from Roger.  Go off to Las Vegas, Sherrie, and buy that cheap airfare to London for $368 return if the other specials have gone.

Jack has sent out an email regarding the share that Nana Fenton has in the Parininihi-ki-Waitotara Incorporation hoping that all of Nana's mokopuna could benefit by the formation of a whanau trust that would permit this to happen.  Everything depends upon the share trustee agreeing to this move.  There is no financial benefit as to direct dividends but the opportunity to apply for the few scholarships available.  As a family, the grandchildren of Nana are, in the main, without any access to trust board monies where applications for scholarships would prevail.   Any other news that you want to share, phone Danny or Mari and Jack and tell them if its okay for the Front page.
