Welcome 6 June 2008 Fraser and Nana Mona off to the USA

From: Margret Sent: 6/06/2008 4:59 p.m.

Upland, California 2nd June Mum and Fraser are at Roger and Sherrie's.  A conversation via Skype and being able to listen in via the Internet and see Mum relaxing is a big bonus of the Internet.  Currently, Mum and Roger are outside the backdoor and enjoying the sunshine.  Mum is getting ready to have a moe.  Both she and Fraser were met at LAX by Pia.   Mum was still missing her Whitcomb & Thompson's tomato chutney sauces and her marmite.I'll wait for the next Skype session and hope that Val joins Skype and can watch and talk with Mum and her son Fraser.

Auckland Airport

1 June 2008

A flight from New Plymouth is the beginning journey for 18 year old Fraser who is on his way to Upland, California to send two weeks with his cousin Rangi.

Fraser, who is sporting a haircut that displays motif depicting koru has flown with Air New Zealand on the 777 direct to LAX.  His fellow passenger is his grandmother, Mona.  They were both en route to visit and stay with Roger and Sherrie.  They arrive in Los Angeles where they are due to be met by the daughter of Tiri Bailey-Nowell; Pia Nowell is a staff member with Air New Zealand and she is well used to greeting and escorting celebrity international travellers.  Mum has been a very close friend of the sisters Hine and Rima, respective mothers of Tiri and Hinemarie when they lived in Pennington Road.

On their flight from New Plymouth was Pia's aunt, Hinemarie who helped out with Mum's baggage requirements.  Tiri and Hinemarie's aunt Maraea was Aunty Tuppence's best childhood girlfriend;  Tiri lives on the farm at the bottom of Rona Road and overlooks the Waitara Valley.

Bon Voyage to the travellers - Fraser for his two weeks in California; make sure that you go on everything exciting at Disneyland and take Rangi with you.  Enjoy eating prawns with him and use Skype to talk to NZ or see your family via the webcam.  Pass on our congratulations to Aunty Sherrie on her graduation when she receives her degree.

Mum - next time, buy Vegemite in the USA: that's where it originated; pack your tomato chutney bottles in plastic in your suitcase.  Roger's streets are made for a scoota.  See if he can hire one for a week at a time.  Enjoy your holiday with the Uplanders before you go charging off to England next week.

Hey, Darryn: we saw the Toffee Pops; hope they get through the food customs.

The photo was taken by Richard: all credit must surely go to him.  I couldn't handle the job having driven from Herald Island to Mangere, in the dark, on a miserable raining night, with the van's park lights emitting week candlelight.  Kingston drove us home; he thought it was safer to do it as he knew where the lights were.  He had a chance to compare talk about his trip on Air NZ to Shanghai with Hinemarie; she is a 19-year veteran employee with AirNZ and works in the field in which he had an interest.
