| And who went down to St James' palace and was in the guard during the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II but Hip Fenton. And who was in Charge of the Guard at Buckingham  Palace but Ike Fenton. Two brothers representing NZ, the NZ Army in particular. A message received from Darcy Nicholas about the webpage: 'Thanks for that, that is really great history. I remember Ike clearly as a very find well spoken person. I was only a kid but he left a fine impression. I did not know his full military background but understand more clearly why he was such an impressionable person having looked through the web site.' It is a tribute to Uncle Ike recalled by Darcy who lived a few paddocks away over in Matarikoriko Road. Darcy lived opposite the Hungaririki Marae and the nearby lands were part of his playground. |

What a lovely message from Darcy Nicholas,when one reads these stories of our Families they just further highlight how Proud we have to be of our Fenton Family.I would strongly urge those with computers,please pass on copies of these stories to your Siblings who do not have access to our super website.It is important that everyone should know of these fine tributes.Arohanui,Mari.

Roger and Rangi and I did make it to Lake Havasu, Arizona this past weekend, where the London Bridge was reconstructed and rededicated in 1971. Rangi and I did stand on the bridge, and wondered at the chances that our relatives had walked on the same bridge! Of course Hip and Uncle Ike of Buckingham Palace lore came to mind, but no sign of a palace, or a London underground. The bridge crosses over part of the lake and they have built a quaint little village with restaurants and shops along the wharf. Didn't see any fog in the 110 degree heat, but rather jet skis, speedboats and palm trees! This may be the closest we come to making that longed-for trip to jolly old England for quite some time. British flags side-by-side with old glory looked great. If we ever do go to London, I hope they have shaved ice!
