2004 - September - Earthquake in Croatia - Malcolm at Mokai steam project

28 September - Garlic and Good Health
Val drove away from the 'naki, with her children, Keegan, Courtney and Fraser, to visit Malcolm in Taupo, where he is working for Fitzroy Engineering at the nearby Mokai steam power project.

The ground's electrical resistivity gives one way of determining the extent of geothermal systems.
Mokai is a deep, high temperature field located approximately 25km northwest of Taupo. Four 2,000m-deep production wells produce steam and brine that are piped to a separator.

Malcolm's home-away-from-home is a few streets away from the Brett's Thermal Resort and he has the rite of passage to soak there.   Fraser was not allowed in the grownups pool and so the family had to play and stay in the family pool.   Shopping in the supermarket in Taupo, Val saw some garlic and decided to use some for aerial bombs and chucked some at a customer .. The very tall, long-blonde-haired, customer looked around to remonstrate with the garlic chucker and screamed ... 'You....".   So, Val and kids got to meet, Michelle, Vicki and her children Ahumai and Nauatu.  Sixteen-year-old Courtney told of her experience of standing beside a very tall Ahumai.  Keegan has a delightful photo of Michelle and Courtney taken with his pxtphone and I hope he will upload it for us to enjoy.  Val told Aunty Mona, upon returning to Waitara on Sunday evening, the exciting news that Michelle is to be married next week.

BRIDE TO BE - in Taupo, Michelle is getting married and congratulations to Michelle and her groom, Jonathan.  Sisters, Vicki, Trish and Jackie will witness the October marriage.

EARTH SHATTERING - Did the earth move for Kingi in Croatia?  Sure did.  The magnitude 4.2 earthquake was like a bomb, he said, when the tremblar occurred  10 miles south-east of the dropzone of Rijeka on 14th September.  The dropzone site had also had a tremendous problem with winds for a week and the tent village was demolished and most teams did not have any practice jumps before competition opened.  Kingston cannot be seen in the photo taken at Riyeka at the 16th World Parachuting Champs.

Nearly the end of September and , on the 7th September ,the Lovable Larrikin Dannywho lives on the Hibscus Coast celebrated his triumph, and for cousin Teri, who lives in Melbourne, his birthday was on 18 September.  Danny needed a fire extinguisher to put out the candles on his retirement birthday cake. Richard went to see Danny, during the final lunchtime at Danny's workplace, having to wait until Danny had parked his Mercedes first, to wish him a happy retirement
